With a passion for creating engaging user experiences, Kara
DeFrias is currently Senior UX Writer for TurboTax.
According to her 2nd grade report card, Kara “likes to talk. A lot .” Which makes sense that she’d take to social media, where she’s part of a team that proactively helps customers via @TeamTurboTax on Twitter (#makesherhappytohelp). In her role on the web creative team in marketing, Kara balances usability know-how with an A/B testing discipline to create highly converting user experiences on TurboTax.com. Prior to joining Intuit, this long-time Toastmaster (DTM) and former journalist worked on the Oscars, Super Bowl XXXVII, and directed TEDxSanDiego 2010. A 3-time cancer survivor, Kara writes about fertility preservation at CasaDeFrias.com (where her tagline is, “Cancer can take my uterus, but not my sense of humor!). Kara received her masters from Penn State University, and studied social behavior while bartending at the Fish & Fiddle pub during her junior year abroad at University of Gloucestershire in England. Her secret superhero identity: saving the world from bad PowerPoint, one slide at a time.
Kara DeFrias will be presenting the following session:
