Marketing Through Social Media Session #smcamp #iwny

It seems obvious now that Social Media is more then marketing, but marketing has been the tip of the spear that has made it relevant to most organizations, and is indeed a key part of the growth Social Media has experienced (not taking anything away from the grass roots, personal nature of its original usage).  This session we will look at the broad concept of what is marketing, how we build relationships with the market, the importance of trust in marketing/branding and how companies are using social media to market their businesses products and services. This includes discussions on the importance of media/content, avenues for generating awareness, garnering word of mouth, and how to build your business using the cost efficient tools of social media.

In this session, we will start with the second half of the presentation from the morning’s session on What is Social Media and move into more specifics.

All of these sessions will be organized using currently available materials that are online, so we encourage you to add any important comments below in addition to any links to other resources you think will help people understand this topic. This session will take place at 300pm on Thursday June 4, 2009.

But I think it’s false, because I think it focuses on the wrong aspects of social media marketing. We don’t go looking for “marketing campaigns” as much as we want input from friends and other trusted sources – and I suspect the latter use is much higher than indicated. Worth a look.

Social Media is getting its due hype. BUT before you jump into the pool, learn a few “marketing” strokes to make sure you win the event. Have a fully integrated Social Media Marketing campaign.
